About Kanisha
Kanisha Dabreo is a Caribbean-Canadian multidisciplinary artist and digital designer based in the GTA. Artistic Perception is a creative company that provides fine art, prints, and custom pieces in a variety of mediums.
During her studies at York University Kanisha fell in love with drawing again, reigniting the greatest passion from her childhood. As a result, she decided to follow her heart to rebuild her dream of becoming an artist.
With a focus on the black experience, Kanisha’s work explores the importance of community, inclusivity, and representation while touching on themes of beauty and self-love. Her works began to pick up momentum in 2019 being displayed in exhibits such as York University's Gales Galleries, Gallery1313, and Blueroom Collective.
In 2021, Kanisha gained an interest in the tech. hoping combine these two passion she began pursuing further education obtaining a Graphic Design certification at Humber College followed by a diploma in Full Stack Web Development.
Current works examine the Civil Rights Movement of 1960s New York, displaying many overlapping issues still present in contemporary North American culture. Touching on controversial themes of social injustice and excessive force utilized by law enforcement personnel while challenging individual perspectives and stereotypes.
In addition to developing her personal craft, Kanisha continues to inspire young artists by leading art workshops in elementary schools as well as for faculty members and university students interested in visual arts, art therapy, and personal development.
